SPEECH

Speech refers to how a person says sounds and words. This encompasses only the physical movements involved in sound production using the articulators in the oral cavity. Clear articulation leads to clear communication.

LANGUAGE

Language refers to the words a person uses to get what he or she wants and to express personal ideas. It also refers to the way in which a person understands the words spoken by others. Language encompasses the meanings of words, structures of sentences and words, and social experiences associated with communication. Language is how is how we all connect.

PROCESSING

Processing refers to how an individual interprets and encodes speech and environmental sounds.

Communication can only start and evolve from a clear understanding of intended communicative messages.

ACCENT REDUCTION

Accent reduction refers to the ways in which a person changes his or her speech and language patterns as well as intonational patterns in order to portray a reduced or different accent. The aim is to communicate more clearly by employing strategies that reflect native-like speech and language.

SERVICES

All services begin with either a screening, which is a brief assessment of skills, or an evaluation, which is an in-depth assessment of skills. Screenings may be executed in order to discern if a full evaluation is necessary. Following the initial evaluation, a treatment plan is crafted and implemented during routine therapy sessions.

SCHOOL-WIDE SCREENINGS

School-wide or class-wide screenings are options available for day care centers, preschools, kindergartens, and primary schools. These screenings are important, because they facilitate the detection of speech and language disorders in every child.
